Philip Bernard Blizzard passed away peacefully at home in Mason, Ohio on October 19, 2014, surrounded by his family. Phil was born on January 30, 1948 in Dunbar, West Virginia, the third child of Paul and Nellewood Blizzard.

Phil spent his first ten years in Dunbar, then moved to Lebanon, Virginia in 1958 and attended Lebanon High School. In 1966, Phil moved to Wheeling, WV and graduated from Wheeling Central Catholic High School. He majored in political science at West Liberty College and graduated in 1971. Phil left Wheeling to pursue and obtain his master’s degree in medieval history at the University of Southwest Louisiana.

He held various teaching positions in the mid-Atlantic region before returning to Wheeling to begin his career in the glass industry with W. A. Wilson. Phil held positions with Wilson Glass Plus, Binswanger Glass, and Libbey-Owens Ford prior to joining YKK AP, where he started the branch and became branch manager in 1996. Phil retired in June of this year, after over 30 years in the glass industry.

Phil enjoyed collecting and repairing antique clocks, attending blue grass festivals and concerts, and spending time with his friends and family, especially the annual Oglebayfest, Wheeling’s Oglebay Park’s fall festival. Phil was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed attending WVU Mountaineer football games.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Sara Keys Blizzard and their children Michele Whelan (Barry) of Clinton, CT; Joshua Blizzard (Alexandra) of Atlanta GA.; Seth Blizzard of Cranberry Township, PA., and stepmother Martha Hubbard of Norfolk, VA. Phil also leaves two cherished grandchildren Liam Whelan (13) and Amelia Whelan (9); siblings Betsy Ashbrook (Porky) of Martinsville, VA.; Martha White (Chip) of Arthurdale, WV; and Sarah Robinson (Jim) of Morgantown, WV; stepbrothers Bill Hubbard of Boston, MA., and Britt Hubbard of Norfolk, VA; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Nellewood Blizzard; sister Nancy Elliott and brother John Blizzard, and niece Amy Robinson. Mueller Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
