James H Brand

May 2, 1930 - August 23, 2014James H. (Jim) Brand, 84, of Lenexa, Kansas, and most recently, Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at home in the Twin Towers Senior Living Community. His family was by his side throughout his final days. Born May 2, 1930, in Taos, Missouri, to Albert and Hilda Brand, Jim was a US Navy veteran of the Korean War, traveled widely, and lived in a variety of American cities, as well as Frankfurt, Germany, before returning to the Midwest, where he has lived for the past 28 years.
Jim was a quiet and generous man who enjoyed watching and identifying birds, designing and cultivating beautiful landscapes, Boy Scout leadership, fishing, and woodworking in his younger years. At Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa, he was an enthusiastic volunteer and found his spiritual home, as well as a large circle of dear friends with whom he got together often for prayer group, to go out for breakfast (his favorite meal) or to play poker. A life long learner, Jim also enjoyed documentaries, reading books of all kinds, and solving the most challenging crossword puzzles.
Jim was an extremely devoted and loving husband to Jackie (Jacqueline Werner) whom he married October 13, 1956. They were best friends and true partners, delighting in each other’s company, and they accomplished great things together. Jim and Jackie moved often as a result of his work with IBM, enjoyed each community immensely, and made long lasting relationships wherever they found themselves. He was a proud father to Julie (Tom) Grove, an architect living in Madison, Wisconsin, and Jeff (Lisa,) an engineer living in Bright, Indiana. He cherished his six incredible grandchildren - Lindsay Grove (Denver,) Alyssa Grove (Chicago,) Katie Brand (Cincinnati,) Libby Brand (Muncie,) James Brand (Bright,) and Mary Brand (Bright.) He was especially happy for Katie, who will marry her fiancé, Seth Daugherty, in October. He is survived by them all, as well as his cousins, Mary Ann, Janet, Bill, and John Schneiders, niece, Ellie Burr, and nephews, Paul and Carl Eisterhold.
A Memorial Mass in celebration of Jim’s life is planned for Saturday, August 30, 10am, at St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross Church in Bright, Indiana. He will be buried in Westphalia, Missouri. Memorial donations may be made in his name to Hospice of Cincinnati or St. Mary’s Food Kitchen through Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa, Kansas.

Our family would like to extend a special ‘thank you’ to Mercy West Hospital and the Hospice of Cincinnati for their loving care and immense support.
