Richard Lee Payne, age 88, of Wilmington, passed away Monday evening, April 14, 2014.

He was born June 9, 1925 in Hamilton, Ohio, son of the late Harvey & Jeannete (McFarland) Payne. On January 17, 1953, he married Jeanette Mary Simon Payne, who passed away August 5, 2003.

A WW II US Navy Veteran, Mr. Payne retired from DP & L as the Wilmington Area District Manager. He was a member of the St. Columbkille Catholic Church, the Wilmington American Legion Post #49, and the Wilmington VFW Post #6710.

Surviving are his sons- Michael (Cindy) Payne, Wilmington, Patrick (Pamela) Payne, Stanley, NC, Stephen (Emily) Payne,Wilmington; Seven grandchildren; Five great-grandchildren; brother- Gene (Happy) Payne, New Bern, NC & sister- Marsha (Ted) Serrer, Huber Heights, OH.

In addition to his parents and wife, Richard was preceded in death by a brother- Jack Payne.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon, Thursday, April 17, at the Fisher-Edgington Funeral Home, 97 West Locust Street at North Mulberry St. Wilmington. Deacon Robert Baker officiating. Entombment will follow in the David's Cemetery, Kettering, Ohio.
