R. Wayne Smith, 75, of Port William, Ohio died 2:18 PM, Friday, May 5, 2017 at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. His wife, Marie Anita (Dodaro) Smith preceded him in death February 3, 2011. He was born April 23, 1942, in Harveysburg, Ohio, a son of the late Robert and Elva (Whitt) Smith.

Wayne, a 1961 graduate of Harveysburg High School and a 1963 graduate of the Dayton Barber College, was a barber in downtown Wilmington for 51 years and was also owner/operator of the WW Quarter Horse Farm where he bred and raised quarter horses for 49 years. He was a member of the St. Columbkille Catholic Church.

As a 4-H advisor for 37 years, he enjoyed helping children. Along with his wife, Marie and friends, they started the Port William Wranglers 4-H Horse Club. Wayne was a past president and director of the Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association and past president of the Ohio Horsemen’s Council.

Survivors include daughters, Angela Smith of Jamestown, Ohio, Regina Smith of Jamestown, Ohio, Erika (Brad) Goodwin of Wilmington, Ohio; son, Nick (Kelly) Smith of Jamestown, Ohio; grandchildren, Emily Marie Goodwin and Gracie Elizabeth Goodwin; a brother, Ronald (Belinda) Smith of Geneva FL; a sister, Joann (Lester) Schoonover of Lebanon, Ohio; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ethel Osterhues, and brothers Harold “Bob” Smith, Gene Smith, and John Smith.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church, 73 N. Mulberry Street, Wilmington, Ohio with celebrant, Rev. Michael Holloran. Burial will be in New Maple Grove Cemetery, Port William, Ohio. Friends may call from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio.
