In the early morning hours on May 22, 2016, as the full moon was rising over the hills of Cincinnati, Mary Virginia Ackermann Brockhoff was called to Heaven. She was born January 20, 1936 to Rudolph and Loretta Ackermann. Beloved wife of the late Jim Brockhoff and a wonderful mother to Beth, Brad (Nancy), Brian, Ann (John) Lucas and Maure (Charlie) Emminger. She is survived by her sister Shirley Schaefer, and brothers Jim (Diane) and Tom (Clare) Ackermann. She was a loving and caring grandmother to 10 grandchildren, Ali, Jake, Jay, Carly, Paige, and Andrew Brockhoff, Spencer and Harrison Lucas, Elodie and Harper Emminger.

She was well loved by everyone that knew her and was a strong, devoted and hard working woman. Mary had a quick wit and loved to laugh, lively sense of adventure, loved to travel, had a keen real estate sense, a fabulous personality and a wonderful creative flair. As part time resident of Hilton Head Island Mary also loved the Lowcountry of South Carolina and watching the full moon rise over the Atlantic Ocean.

She also spent many hours knitting, making many sweaters for her family and underprivileged newborns. In 1976 she opened a retail store called Second Serve in Obryonville. She was one of the first to sell well known tennis apparel at a discount, pioneering the seconds in tennis apparel in Cincinnati. While raising 5 kids, supporting Jim, running her business she also successfully owned and managed several long term student rentals.

In 2004, Mary and her late husband Jim were honored by former Xavier University tennis players with the establishment of the Jim & Mary Brockhoff Tennis Scholarship Fund at Xavier University. In addition, last May, Xavier University dedicated the varsity men's & women's tennis facility; naming it the Jim & Mary Brockhoff Family Tennis Center.

Mary attended Summit Country Day School (K-12) and graduated from the University of Cincinnati. She was a Phi Kappa Theta.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Rose Church, 2501 Riverside Dr, 45202, Monday, May 30th at 10:00am with a celebration of her life afterwards.
