Alan Clyde Gordon, 74, of Batavia, Ohio died peacefully at his home on May 23, 2015. Alan was born in Cincinnati on April 20, 1941, the son of Edith A. (Theile) Gordon and Samuel Clyde Gordon both of Cincinnati, Ohio.

He grew up in the Cincinnati community of Winton Place and graduated from Walnut Hills High School in 1959. He graduated from Oberlin College in 1963 with a B.A. in History. Upon graduation he entered the business world before enrolling in the Naval Officers’ School from which he graduated as an lieutenant and then served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.

While serving in the Navy he married Billie Bivins, of Miami, Florida. They moved to Atlanta where they raised their three sons. Alan founded and ran Faxon Gordon, an independant advertising agency, for twenty-five years.

Alan was an avid reader and library patron. He particularly enjoyed reading history and historical fiction. It was while reading, he peacefully died at home.

He was a regular volunteer for the sports program at Batavia High School where he manned the gate at football games, kept the scorebook at softball games, assisted the Athletic Director, and was well known, and well liked, by both students and parents.

He is survived by his brother Donald T. Gordon of Wooster, Ohio and four children, Chantelle Bentley Phillips of Amelia, Ohio; Alan C. Gordon of Atlanta, Georgia; John H. Gordon of Portland, Oregon, and William F. Gordon of Petaluma, California; and three grandchildren, Eleanor Seta, Quinlan Bentley, and Freya Gordon.

A graveside memorial service will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, on July 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. E. C. Nurre Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
